About Nuschka de Vos
Early Years
I was brought up on a small organic farm in the Western Cape, where good food, good wine and good company were both appreciated and regularly indulged in. Laughter and conversation, the chink of cutlery and the clinking of wineglasses were a familiar and enjoyable soundtrack in our home. With this background, the choice to study viticulture and pursue a career in the wine industry was an easy and attractive one to make.
The Journey Begins
I enrolled for BSc Viticulture and Oenology at Stellenbosch University. In the months before the course began, I was also given the opportunity to work in the vineyards for the renowned Rosa Kruger who became a mentor and an inspiration to me. The more I learned and experienced, the more the allure of winemaking captured my heart and the more I wanted to find out about it. After graduating I started exploring vineyards and wineries across the globe, from the wine farms of Bordeaux, to the vineyards on the slopes of the Mosel and the wine landscapes of New Zealand, always deepening my appreciation of the art of winemaking.

Embracing Sustainability
My quest for deeper understanding led me to Reyneke Wines in Stellenbosch, one of the few independently certified biodynamic and organic wine farms in South Africa, where I spent 6 years honing my craft. Here I was involved in all facets of production, from harvesting to bottling and to marketing and sales. During my time at Reyneke, I worked with dedication and with sincere commitment to the principles of organic and sustainable farming. I gained insight into the fundamental and inextricable link between terroir and wine expression and I came to realise that great wine is born and nurtured in the vineyard and only if this is successfully done can the alchemy of winemaking which is practised in the cellar, produce truly excellent results.

Dreams Become Reality: Vulpes Wines is Born
In Nov 2021, armed with knowledge, boundless energy and a head brimming with dreams, I took the leap: I bid farewell to Reyneke Wines and embarked on a new chapter: my own wine label, Vulpes Wines was born in February 2022.
The 2022 vintage, a Chenin Blanc from the Swartland was just the beginning. In 2023 four new vineyard blocks were added, expanding the Vulpes Wines portfolio to include a range of whites and a red.
I am delighted to be able to report that the first Vulpes wine to be released received an excellent rating from Tim Atkin.

The Journey Continues
Winemaking is an ongoing journey in quest of finding the perfect grape with which to create an excellent wine to share with other wine lovers. I invite you to be part of my journey.
